Photovoltaic power

Our vision

30 Years from now we project that the earth’s population will reach about 9 billion people.

If we imagine that in the year 2050 we could provide all inhabitants of our planet with a living standard as high as that of Germany, and only use modern day technology, what do you think how much of our planet’s surface would we need, to cover in solar panels?

It would only take a maximum of 0.6% earth’s surface to be covered by solar panels. That is only about the size of India.

The blue dot on the world map shows the calculated area.

So, what is photovoltaic power?

Photovoltaic systems produce environmentally friendly solar power. Using the so-called photoelectric effect sunlight is converted into electricity. Afterwards the generated power is fed into the public power grid.

Energy amortization

The energetic amortization describes the amount of time, after which the photovoltaic system begins to produce more energy, then was needed for its own production.

Of course, this number strongly depends on the location of the photovoltaic park, that is why we use for our calculation the region around the equator!

The amortization time of solar cells is also depending on the type of solar cells: thin-film poly-crystalline or mono-crystalline.

Different types of cells

The energetic amortization of thin-film solar-cells is the quickest. This is obvious because the manufacturing process is less complex than for crystalline cells and less raw material is used. Depending on the efficiency, the amortization is between 1.5 and 3.5 years.

The energy payback for poly-crystalline solar cells has to be longer. This kind of photovoltaic system has an energy payback between 2 and 4.5 years.

Amortization of mono-crystalline solar cells is the longest, this is based on the expensive wafer production. It takes between 4 to 6 years. But on the other hand, they last the longest.

Our investments

ExitCO2 invests in photovoltaic projects that have a minimum projected operating life of about 10 years. So, depending on which type of solar-cells the park consist, the photovoltaic park produces after only 1.5 years pure and clean energy.

Information material

Because of the scientific background of the founders, we always make calculations, so we know exactly how big the potential of our investments are. Take a look!
